My Experience With NYIT’s Carleton Group

logo carleton groupThis semester I had the opportunity to be Account Executive of the student-run ad agency at NYIT called the Carleton Group. I was selected as Account Executive by the faculty advisor Professor John Hanc. I was surprised since this was my first semester at NYIT. However, the professor saw something in me when I first met him last year at the NYIT Open House. I kept in touch with him throughout the year and when I got accepted into NYIT he insisted that I be part of the Carleton Group.

I have learned a lot about an agency by being part of one. As the account executive, I was the liaison between our two clients. The first client was a church who wanted to reach out and get younger members the other client was a start-up that is an event ticketing web portal. Two different accounts that presented different challenges.

Some weeks were overwhelming dealing with deadlines and meeting client needs. Also managing the team was a lesson learned. The Carleton Group is like an internship and has no papers or exams. However, you are expected to work for your clients. Next week December 8th will be the final day of the class. It will culminate in a showcase where we show our clients all the work we have done. I am excited to showcase my team’s work.

If anyone is interested in pr or advertising and can go to the Old Westbury campus feel free to consider this class. You can comment below if you have any questions about the class.
