What if you were there?

You wake up in the morning everyday and think for less than a minute about where the hell are you? What time is it? Which day is it? Then you realize everything, check your phone, go to the restroom and have a cup of coffee or tea. This is almost the routine of each one of us!

Now, let’s think about things differently. You are in an uncomfortable bed then you heard a massive noise outside that made you feel like there is a mountain just fall into pieces. Opened you’r eyes to see what’s going on and saw throw the window that a bomb was exploded near your! and all what you see now is Fire!Smoke!Buildings falling down!People screaming!

What would you feel? Frightened, scared, Angry? This is what people in Syria feel everyday. For more than 5 years they are suffering of hunger and cold. They live in shelters and tents. The kids are not going to school anymore and some kids are even born and raise in these conditions. There are thousand of sad stories about them that could break anyone’s heart! But I want to bring a different kind of stories about hope, youth and happiness! Few days ago I was watching the famous show (Arabs Got Talent) which is the arabic version of (America Got Talent). However, there were many unique talents but the one that grabbed my attention was a group ,called The fair Rab,of three brothers from Syria who live in camps. What made me so amused is that they had a professional help to make them sign for Arabs Got Talent so even though they didn’t have home they didn’t stop practicing and doing what they want to do!! Without a place to practice in!!

” The kid who was inside us dead from the kill, the sadness and the insults. Our toys are broken and our dreams are burned. Syria became a movie! I want to sing and sing and sing yeah!! For love and happiness I want to spread my songs! We are tired of sadness, hunger and hopelessness. We missed our homes, lemons trees, neighbors and birds. We ask God that Syria will get back to the laughter voices not the gun noises.”

This is what they said in their song and made everyone cry! I cried when I knew that these kids came up with these words! They are so young to feel and experience this! I can’t even imagine what they’ve been throw! these words seem like they came from someone who is old enough to express what he or she feels. But what I saw in this is that pain made these young kids talk out loud about things they shouldn’t feel in this age! So instead of playing, learning and having fun this is what they are doing!!

Ok let’s get back to you now! setting in your comfy warm cloths away from the cold outside. What would you do if you were there with them? at least think about what would you do for them while you are here and they are there?

This is a sensitive and serious topic. Of course, as a individual what we can do is never enough. However, we can give them some comfort and use our authentic and warm words. Let them know that the world is still filled up with brightness and hopes if you trust. I also participated some related activities to help people recover from tough situation. All in all, confidence and inside hopes are critical. In addition, art can be another way to communicate with them even though them are cold and hungry, but they do need art.

I watched their show, it was emotional:(
but you know I think those children gave us a great lesson about being optimistic. Hope and music are the only things that make those kids to survive in the camps.
