Saudis can make a difference!

One month ago I didn’t know many saudi students actually I could count them on my hand. But, last week with a sudden conversation between me and my friend Mayasr I discovered the huge number of saudi students here in NYIT. She told me about her intentions to start the first saudi club in Manhattan, all the saudi clubs were in different parts of New York and New Jersey but not Manhattan,so all the saudi students in Manhattan didn’t find a way to communicate and share the same interest with each other.

As she was talking and describing her idea the first thing that came to my mind is that I have to be a part of this for many reasons: First, I’ve always been part of clubs throw all my educational life so I should continue. Second, it’s a very good way to represent my county here in the united states. Third, that will add a lot to my resume. Forth, I would like to help in something that I like. I would give more reasons but there is no time to share them all:p

However, I asked her at the same time is there any empty positions for me to fill in. She named few but what grabbed my attention  is the the social media specialist .YES, this is where I see my self so I told her that I would like to fill for this position and few days latter she got back to me with the approval and I started my new job with the saudi club in NYIT. The only problem that I had is that the launching event is two days away!!

I took all the needed informations and she introduced me to the other members of the club. but still I was confused! everyone knew everything and they were getting ready for the event but I was just in the beginning. Well in this point there is no time I need to act fast to catch up with everything.

I started posting and everything is good so far though I made a silly spelling mistake in one of the tweets because I didn’t pay attention. So my number one lesson is whenever you are in charge of something that many people will see you need to pay attention for EVERYTHING and what pissed me off is that I can’t edit my tweet.

3/10/2017 was the day of the opening celebration of the saudi club. Everyone was there early to help. The event started at 6:30pm people started to come, the place is getting full and everything is well organized. The celebration started on time, Mayasr welcomed the crowed,I informed the audience about our hashtag and social media accounts so they would participate, our guest speakers got on stage and we ended the celebrations by giving gifts for our audience. I tweeted using the club hashtag #sacnyit and the university hashtag #nyit to give all the needed information for the followers. In all, the event was a success. Nothing could be better than how it was.

Personally, what caught me attention that day is what one of our guest speakers Rayn Alhazmi said “saudi can make a difference by volunteering and helping the others to show everyone that what they know about us throw the media is not correct and here we are helping the others because this is what always do!” . That was so deep!! I want to help because I want to help. People in all over the would have connected saudis with terrorism but the truth is all what we want is to help and be there for each other. Saudi or especially the young saudis can make a huge difference in this world. we need to start and the first step is to help others so we can help our selves!!

Congratulations! Don’t worry about making mistakes, that’s how we learn. Just delete the tweet and do it again next time 🙂 There’s no harm in that, we are all humans and we make mistakes but don’t forget to proof read 🙂
