Here are a few tips that I thought would be beneficial to basically anyone on the art of saving money.
First off, create a BUDGET. Consider a budget as a guideline to attaining your financial objectives. A sensible budget will disclose to you precisely where your money is going and help distinguish your “needs” and “wants” as you try to achieve these goals.
Next, I think it is very important to track your spending. “BE AWARE”. Over the course of a month, you should try as much as possible to record every cent you spend. It may seem impossible, but once you get into a habit I am sure it will become easier and easier. At the end of the month, take notice of the spending and examine the list to see where your money is going. Therefore you will be able to see the various areas in which you need to cut back on your spending.
Think of YOURSELF. When you are getting ready to pay your bills, first set aside money “safety/purpose” money for retirement, college, investing, or whatever is of importance to you, and then take care of everything else.
LIFESTYLE. Plan your budget to fit your lifestyle. Do not try to purchase lavishly, if you know you do not have the luxury of doing so. Be realistic about where you can save money. Also cutting back on certain things will be beneficial. For example: buying lunch once or twice a week rather than everyday. Try to create meals at home.
