“Have you ever eaten fried grasshoppers?” My uncle asked me when I was young. He also handed one of fried grasshopper to me. Really? How to eat it? I asked him and then he showed me how. Just only one bit at that time, It becomes to one of my favorite snack.
Many people in urban Thailand eating the fried bugs as snack. Mostly they eat it while drinking beer. They’re usually fried and seasoned with soy sauce and Thai pepper powder. You can find the grasshoppers, water beetles, crickets, silkworms, bamboo worms, scorpions, water beetles and ant eggs selling at the fresh market, the street vendors or the temple fairs. The price starts at $1 and you will get 5 grasshoppers or a small bag of silkworms. They also think of bugs as a healthy, low calorie treat. They eat it like eating fried, popcorn or peanut.
