“A cozy home with a loving sitter – meet the animal lovers who will treat your pet like family. With DogVacay, your pet stays in a sitter’s home or yours, whether you’re traveling or just out for the day. We have the right sitter for every type of pup, from puppies to seniors to those with special needs:”
This is DogVacay’s slogan. It is a site where people like you and me can register to become a dog sitter. Since I’m a dog lover, (as you all already know from my previous blog posts) I created a profile. I added contact information, a description, pictures of my apartment and informed the dog owners what kind of experience I have and what kind of dogs I’m willing to sit.
However, what surprised me was that no one actually checked if I’m really a dog lover or if I know anything at all about our furry friends. Even though you have to meet the dog owners and the dogs before you sit them, they can’t for sure know that I’m not a crazy person who beats animals and abuses them. Since everyone can create a profile I’m shocked that the people at DogVacay don’t do a background check before they approve peoples profiles. They write in their slogan that pet owners will meet animal lovers who will treat their pet like family. But how can DogVacay really know that the people who are registered are animal lovers? Since I’m not from America they can’t do a background check on me. But it didn’t take them long to approve me either, which I think it’s crazy.
Even though it is amazing for me to get the opportunity to be a dog sitter, I would never ever let a stranger watch my dog. What if he got beaten and I didn’t know about it? I wouldn’t know if I, week after week, delivered my dog to an abuser. I understand that it is a great offer for busy people. But if you live a busy life and don’t have family or friends you can ask for help when you need it, why get a dog? That’s something I don’t understand and never will understand.
What do you think about how DogVacay operates, and would you leave your dog with a stranger?
Till next time!
