The Reality TV Trap

issues.cc

What is it with reality TV? I’m beginning to notice that I spend more of my time watching ridiculous reality shows rather than quality TV shows anymore. I don’t even enjoy them, but somehow I get sucked in. For example, the other day I was cleaning my room and had my television on for some background noise…next thing I know, I’m sitting on my bed, 30 minutes have passed and I’m lost in a disastrous Kardashian marathon. I have sadly also fallen victim to such shows like Project Runway, Real Housewives, and Jersey Shore.

I never used to watch shows like this! In college I was always the only one of my friends who couldn’t stand watching reality shows because I would cringe at how people acted. I don’t know how I got consumed by the reality TV trap but I often wonder how it happened. Are the other program options today really that bad? Do I just enjoy watching these people make fools of themselves? Or am I just overworked & tired and just looking for a way to shut my brain off for an hour and idly stare at a silly show at the end of the day?

Does anyone else watch these shows, or have some other embarrassing guilty pleasure? I hope I’m not the only one!

I am guilty of watching all of these shows! I think it’s because I’m overworked and I’m looking for something that requires minimal thought, and also I do find the characters in these shows highly entertaining 🙂

I definitely agree with you–sometimes we all need something to turn our brains off at the end of a long day!
