It’s hard growing up in America. It’s even harder growing up Black in America.

Don’t believe me? Just ask the parents of Florida teen Travyon Martin. They had the very sad, and upsetting tale of burying their 17-year old son after he was gunned down while visting his father in Sanford by the neighborhood “watchman.”

What made it worse, was the fact that George Zimmerman said Trayvon looked “suspicious,” and that he shot the teen in self defense.

How suspicious can a 17-year old boy look? The hoodie must have done it for this guy to shoot an UNARMED teen!

What makes the case even worse is the fact that cases like Trayvon’s happen often. Just an innocent youth in the wrong place, at the wrong time.

The Martin family did not only bury their son, but are rallying for justice. The question of race is always a big one in cases like this, but the issue of is the justice system totally fair in America? For example, had Trayvon been any other race, would Zimmerman have been arrested and tried immediately?

I think the Stand Your Ground law needs to be repealed and Zimmerman needs to be arrested and properly tried in court. Trayvon was unarmed and on the phone! This is the most insane disregard for life. It’s so sad.

  3. This was a very sad and disturbing story. I hope there is a positive outcome regarding changing state laws to protect innocent people from any further incidents like these.

I can imagine the hardest part for his family is that justice has not been served. Seeing Zimmerman would not bring their son back, but at least bring closure. How can they move on and grieve if he is still walking the streets? And this “Stand Your Ground” law needs to be revisited. The man obviously found a loophole in that law. Self defense is one thing, but for people to be taking justice into their own hands is another.

Totally agree with you Jenelle! I hope they are going to change the law and put this guy behind bars.
